Soooooooooo *sigh. It has been real, it has been fun, it has been really fun but just like other good things, this good thing is coming to an end. I am writing this last blog with bittersweet feelings. I have really enjoyed this class mostly because of all the good I have learnt about and from social media. I must admit I came into this class with a lot of excitement just because I had the impression that I would learn some sweet things about the web, technology, social media, internet etc. And that I did however I underestimated the impact this class would have on my digital experience for the rest of my life. Around about the middle of the semester, I began to be bitter after learning all the cons and negative aspects of social media but right now, I am PRO social media. There is definitely more good, more benefits and blessings than contrary. A couple of reminders before we move on:
This is my first time blogging and I haven't decided if want to continue or not but I definitely enjoyed blogging for this class because it helped me reflect on so many positive things about social media.
Second, as a result of this course I have resolved to deactivate my Facebook during Summer B. Actually I think that's a little extreme. I will only go on it on Saturdays. I think that's a better goal. I will at some point deactivate my Facebook though. I'll start by making baby steps. Lastly, I want to talk about the most impactful lesson I gained from this experiment. From the Psychology of Social Media course, I learnt to look at what is right and beautiful in the world. That is a profound lesson to me. I am thankful this course reminded me that. Like I mention in the beginning of this blog and in previous blogs, I came in with the idea that social media is just a big fat waste of people's time. Social media is such a blessing because it enables us to connect with loved ones. It spreads positive and inspiring stories, messages and blogs. It raises awareness to changes that will make our world a better and safer place. It unites people across the world in sharing and learning ideas. I am actually sad that this class is coming to an end but thankful that from it I learnt to have hope in humanity again. I know my thoughts are kind of all over the place right now but I really enjoyed this course. I think it is the beginning of something magnificent to come in future. I think it's even ground breaking to other courses in other colleges around the world. One other thing I'd like to mention is the importance this course taught me about teaching safe internet use in the home. I will definitely implement what I have learnt with my own friends and family especially little cousins, nieces and nephews. Technology is an amazing thing, who knew 20 years ago that we would be where we are today and we can only imagine 20 years from now. Come what may, I am expecting change but with these changes we can find what is right and beautiful in them if that's we focus on the positives.
